Voter Registration has Gone to the Dogs! My Dog Votes™ and Dog Federation of New York will Register Voters at Strutt Your Mutt 2006 in Carmel, N

Albany, NY (PRWEB) September 14, 2006 -- Voter registration has finally gone to the dogs! My Dog Votes™, the company with a mission of Saving Dogs & Democracy™, and the Dog Federation Of New York (DFNY), announced that the DFNY will conduct a "My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drive" in Carmel, New York as part of the My Dog Votes™ National Voter Registration Partner Program.

This unique voter registration event will take place at the Strutt Your Mutt 2006 Dog Walk-a-thon to benefit the Putnam Humane Society on Saturday, September 23rd at the Putnam County Veteran's Memorial, Gypsy Trail Road, Carmel, New York, and is a part of the first ever "My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drive" in the country.

"Our goal is to inspire and elevate voter participation by reaching out to dog lovers who care about their communities," said Barbara Haywood, Founder, My Dog Votes™. Voter apathy is the leading reason for low voter turnout, especially in local elections. "The My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drive is a completely unique approach to voter outreach, in that there has never before been a national, nonpartisan effort to reach dog owners.

"The My Dog Votes™ GOTV (Get Out The Vote) Campaign has been so well received across the country, people were asking how they could get involved. The My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drives are a natural extension of the Campaign".

The My Dog Votes™ PSA Campaign is the country's only nonpartisan GOTV ad campaign. It features real dog owners and their dogs, and pairs them with simple voter outreach messages, including, "Register To Vote", "Your Vote Matters" and "Local Elections Count", and seeks to provide dog-owning voters fresh inspiration to get them into the voting booth.

"It's a tremendous opportunity to bring together caring dog owners for a good cause", said Mahlon Goer of the Dog Federation Of New York. "Everyone loves the idea of the My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drive. They're having fun while doing their civic duty". The DFNY, a coalition of individual dog owners and dog clubs, has become a powerful voice in advocating for strong animal welfare laws and policy throughout the state.

The My Dog Votes™ Voter Registration Drive kicks off at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2006 on the grounds of the Veteran's Memorial Park, and will be staffed by volunteers from the Dog Federation Of New York. The Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk-a-thon is an annual event that attracts hundreds of dog owners and dog lovers.

Barbara Haywood, Founder, My Dog Votes™, stated, "We are grateful that the participating organizations, the Dog Federation Of New York and the Putnam Humane Society, share our vision of making the world a better place by educating the public about responsible ownership and helping inspire voter participation. The support from dog lovers has just been tremendous -- it really is exciting!"

"The My Dog Votes™ Campaign is revitalizing voters across the country, and we're hoping to increase voter turnout in local elections everywhere", said Ms. Haywood. "If the My Dog Votes™ Campaign can help inspire even a few of us to vote, then it has been a resounding success. I can't think of a better reason to get out and vote in a local election".
