Guide Dogs for the Blind Brings Out the Dogs to Tour de Cure
Yountville, CA (PRWEB) May 11, 2007 -- On Sunday, May 6, "Team GDB" (a cycle team formed of affiliates of Guide Dogs for the Blind), participated in the American Diabetes Association's "Tour de Cure" in Napa Valley. Guide Dogs for the Blind is an organization that sees the impact of diabetes in its work every day; diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness in the United States. With 20.8 million adults and children in America living with diabetes, Team GDB was eager to not only help support efforts toward finding a cure, but share the message that until a cure is found, people can still enjoy active, healthy lifestyles despite diabetes and blindness. The 33 cyclists on Team GDB raised more than $17,000 to support the American Diabetes Association's efforts. Among the cyclists were several blind riders on tandem bikes, who were enthusiastically greeted by their awaiting Guide Dogs at the finish line.
Guide Dogs for the Blind is a national nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, Calif. Its services are provided free-of-charge to those it serves, and relies solely on private donations (GDB receives no government funding).
